Malaria is the leading cause of death in Nigeria. An estimated 54 million cases of malaria per year result in 82,000 yearly deaths.

**OUR GOAL: a world free of malaria.**

Xinova is brainstorming and testing truly innovative solutions to improve the timeliness, quality and visibility of data for the malaria supply chain in Northern Nigeria.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Xinova, with support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, gathered five innovators to collaborate and identify new approaches to improve the ability to track malarial supplies, particularly Rapid Diagnostic Tests (RDT) and antimalarial medicines, throughout this low resource setting.

The goal of these sessions will be to identify a solution that can:

Provide accurate and complete supply chain data across all levels of the supply chain, including the last mile, in as close to real time as possible
Lower the amount of work required by clinic workers
Be cost effective and sustainable once implemented at scale
Can be tested at low cost in a follow-on project

This team of innovators answered the call and applied to lend their diverse expertise toward an innovative solution. They converged in Seattle, WA to participate in this opportunity.

Chelsea Greene

Her passion and experience lies in developing optimization models to support a coordinated effort in building sustainable and resilient infrastructure, supply chain and logistics systems.

His personal experiences with malaria has shaped his approach to tackling the problem. Treating the disease requires demonstrating deep empathy and respect for the culture of the populations being served.

Shawn Knowles

He understands how daily life and resource-constrained business development works in remote and developing nations, having spent significant time in China, India, South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, and Zambia.

Keith Neroutsos

He is an executive procurement director who has spent 17 years working in the social sector. His passion is for brainstorming creative solutions through dialogue among peers who share the common goal of solving complex problems.

Chris Rothfuss

Senate Minority Leader of the Wyoming Legislature and a scientist through and through, Rothfuss performs with a politician’s focus on benefitting society and an engineer’s mindset for applying technology and solving problems.
