Something about the skies and oceans moves me. Always has. From my childhood, I would look up at passing airplanes and wonder if my pilot father was the one leaving contrails across the vast blue canvas. Years later, curiosities led me to explore another great unknown, and soon found myself scuba diving every weekend to enjoy the marine ecosystem. Those early experiences moved me to want to learn more about how the world works, and formed my early educational aspirations towards mechanical engineering.
An opportunity to move to Japan came with a shift in technical focus. This time, mobile wireless technologies caught my attention and placed me directly in the nucleus of where 3G services were being pioneered. The majority of citizens were experiencing the internet for the first time, not through clunky desktops but through tiny handheld wonders. New technologies were being developed by large corporations, only to struggle over how to modernize their business models to align with the products they were developing. Enterprises with seemingly endless budgets still seemed to be failing. It became clear that independent and isolated R&D methods were no longer part of a workable model. Products and services required more openness and stronger commercialization paths to prosper, else they become destined for failure.
It is exciting knowing that Xinova helps tackle these difficult issues head on. Organizations of all sizes reach out to our inventor network to solve those hard problems. But it doesn’t stop at invention and patenting. Our varied staff hold vast experiences to successfully navigate pitfalls while bringing ideas off the napkin and to reality. I immensely enjoy working with people, whether innovators, clients, or staff, who question the status quo, extend their learning, and invite imagination.
My early passions continue to this day. The many opportunities to travel during my youth now extended to my two young boys. Similarly, my diving has transitioned from consumer to educator, as I now spend my summer weekends instructing others. Spare time usually involves basketball, camping, and skiing, and craft beers.
