You’re invited to apply for the next Rapid Innovation Session. Qualified candidates will join 4-5 Innovators to collaborate and brainstorm solutions on a method to create a paperboard composite canister that is easier to recycle.

We are seeking for method to create a paperboard composite canister that is easier to recycle. There is concern for the recyclability of composite paperboard container, because the inner layer is made of aluminum. In some regions, this type of container will either become garbage or contaminate the paper recycling stream, because the lack of recycling equipment to separating paper and aluminum containing layers. The sidewall of a common canister is made of several layers. The outer layer is thin paper label. The next two layers are typically thicker paperboard material. The inner layer provides oxygen and moisture barrier with deposited aluminum or foil. The composite structure provides package strength and barrier properties that allow unique product benefits. Benefits include compact form for shipping long distances, warehousing, and merchandising. Other benefits are protection against product breakage and long shelf life.
