What a world we find ourselves in.
With SARS-CoV-2 and COVID-19 having reached pandemic status, we see the whole world experiencing radical change to virtually all aspects of reality. Businesses are being seriously affected, and our local communities are suffering through venue and school closings, supply shortages, social distancing, and panic behaviors. These are trying times and I am proud of this community for keeping calm and focused on our shared mission of innovation.
As innovators, our skills and expertise have never been more valuable. Our ideas and work have never been more important. Innovators have a habit of delivering the inspiring solutions that guide society through its bleakest hours. Perhaps you saw the meme about Sir Isaac Newton discovering gravity while in isolation at home from the plague of 1665. I urge you all to maintain your focus and you may find surprising inspirations.
We will continue to grow and adapt to these conditions. At Xinova, we are already doing the small things. We are shifting to videoconferencing and our course in disruption design strategy at Arizona State University’s Thunderbird School of Management is now virtual. But we will also come up with larger ideas.
We know there are many idled R&D staff at companies and many working at home. We can help. Our core expertise is in the efficient focus of distributed brainpower, and our unique experience at virtual management of innovation projects can assist partners with the organization of their own R&D processes to fit this new reality. We have a bank of ideas and a suite of services available for on-demand modular projects to help make R&D more efficient for projects ranging from a week to years. And we have long-term strategic services with different forms of disruption baked in that readily suit this new business reality.
Now is a time to be creative and see what we can do with a rapid innovation mentality in a chaotic time. Nobody should be idle waiting for answers to come to them.
As innovators, hard circumstances have tested us before. Media cannot resist the Cassandra stories of doom but the energy related crisis of the 70’s, the Asia crisis of the 90’s, the dot com and telecom bubble with 9/11, and the financial reset in 2008 were all heralded as the end of life as we know it. But these are also times when some of the best innovations and most sustainable ideas were generated, such as distributed software development, SAAS, sharing economy, and deep learning to just cite some modern examples. While we as a global community navigate uncharted waters, be assured that calm shores lie ahead for. Persevere. Create. Innovate. Every problem, no matter how complex, has a solution, no matter how hard its steps. Your entrepreneurial spirit is your compass.
During these extraordinary times, please continue to take care of yourself and your family. Although these are trying times, let’s stay focused and come out of this stronger than ever, together.
