Kevin is a Vice President at Xinova, where he manages innovation services, including business development and inventor interaction. After building many of the programs over ten years in the Japan office, he now resides in Seattle.
Kevin Williams has a background in Mechanical Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic and State University, where he researched and developed active collision avoidance systems for automobiles. An opportunity led him to move to Japan in the early 90’s where he worked for Honda. After several years of witnessing the fast pace of the wireless market , Kevin shifted his career focus towards IT and became an analyst for market intelligence firm International Data Corporation (IDC). As the Senior Market Analyst and Research Manager, he researched and reported on the mobile computing industry and spearheaded new research programs in smart handheld technologies, wireless, and Internet and e-Commerce areas. His research has been quoted in numerous industry magazines and trade journals.
Kevin brought his accumulated market knowledge to NTT DoCoMo, Japan’s largest mobile communications company, where he managed strategic business development and corporate venture initiatives for the Advanced Technology Research Division. After six years, Kevin joined Intellectual Ventures as the Director of Invention Development for the Japan office.
Kevin is also an active investor in restaurants, craft beer breweries, and venture companies and in his spare time has trained several guide dogs.
