When people ask me how I invent, I usually say, ‘I take showers and walk the dog.’ That’s how things happen. I put an idea on the back shelf of my brain and then it jumps out when I am ready and it says, ‘Hey, look at me! I’m an idea!’”

Happy Earth Day!
Ever notice how well Earth Day on April 22nd segues into National Inventors Month in May? We as innovators want our ideas to propel the world toward a healthier, happier place. Talk about sharing upside on a grand scale.
Check out April’s new Request for Inventions on plant jerky and talent-to-task matchmaking algorithms. They help innovators help Mother Earth. And make sure to read the inspiring profile of Noam Hadas, who opens up about his remarkable journey as an innovator learning to understand people as well as technology. published in April
Beef jerky is a tender, juicy, and delicious snack that, unfortunately, is not environmentally sustainable. Plant-based jerky presents a viable alternative, but getting it to taste as good is a challenge. We’re looking for scalable new flavoring processes that yield tasty plant-based jerky.” –RFI 180103 Manager, Shivani Gupta, PhD

–Noam Hadas, Inventor and entrepreneur
Noam Hadas doesn’t recall his first invention. Nor his most recent one. He didn’t lose count exactly; before he started patenting his ideas, he’d already invented many tools and products, primarily in the sleep and medical technology spaces, for over two decades. He just didn’t know to call it inventing at the time. Innovation came naturally to him, and his business circumstances demanded constant problem solving. published in April
Plastic-eating enzyme could clean up ocean
A continent of plastic refuse is growing in the Pacific Ocean. Recent innovations launched to combat the problem include trash-collecting sea drones and sea bins, and are headlined by a Dutch 23-year-old’s Ocean Cleanup system, which has been funded over $31 million. And an Apr. 17, 2018 paper published in PNAS unveils a promising new enzyme, discovered by accident, that digests Polyethelen terapthalate (PET) plastics. published in April
